Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some commonly asked questions we get before folks join us, if these do not help you, feel free to get in touch with us and we will help your directly.

What do I need at my first session?

Your wonderful self, a water bottle and any weapons or pieces of equipment that are of interest to you! If you have experience in other weapon arts, bring the tools you are familiar with and our instructors will check them over for usability within our practice. It’s advised to wear comfortable clothes you would wear to a gym or other training session.

Absolutely. Our instructors will take you through the basics in the first hour and introduce to your how we conduct out sparring and get your hands on a range of weapons and introduce you to other chapter members.

As part of our operations, we actively welcome young adults to engage with the training we offer. The benefits of such training can be extremely beneficial to both mental and physical health, as well as the confidence of the Junior Member as they learn to engage with training on their own terms and develop as a combatant.

Junior Members are those who wish to train with us and are not yet over the age of 18. We ask that those looking to join the Order of the Blade as Junior Members are over the age of 14 and accept they are joining an adult training environment.

We do remind both the Junior Member and their legal guardians that the training and events on offer are designed for adult audiences, and as such, we expect that any Junior Member joining us is able to operate in that environment. While the Instructors at sessions will attempt to be accommodating, as we would with any other issue, there will be some instances that may not be suitable for younger persons.

Legal guardians of the Junior Member are welcome to sit in any session they wish and oversee training given to their ward. Questions to Instructors on matters of safeguarding for the Junior Member are always welcome and our Instructors will seek contact on a semi-regular basis with both the Junior Member and their legal guardian to ensure they are happy with the training on offer and feel it is appropriate to continue with training.

Legal guardians will be given direct contact details for the Head Instructor so they can communicate any issues they may have in private.

Brilliant. We love introducing new ideas into our training halls. Our instructors will ask you questions and take you through a guided sparring session. This will show us elements which may need work and your current strengths so we can deliver lessons that benefit your skillset. Provided the right kit is there, you will be able to jump straight into training with us.

Please see our Chapters page for up-to-date locations and timings for each chapter.

Our introduction session is £7.50, which covers the administration needs and the first session you have with us. Afterwards, we charge £18 per session. Members can access the subscription model, detailed on the page linked below.

A membership is essentially your insurance. The Order will cover your insurance for your first four sessions, and after that you’ll need to take out your own membership (insurance) to continue to train. Memberships can be paid monthly £6.25/mo) or annually (£75/year).

Subscriptions are a way of paying for training. Without a subscription, you can pay as you go by buying a single training pass (£18) as and when you need to, or a bundle of x4 passes (£65). Passes are used up as training sessions are attended. However, if you attend regularly and would like to save a little extra money, you can take out a monthly subscription. Subscriptions are billed on the 1st of each month and takes away the hassle of having to remember to buy your passes. It’s also a great option if you want to attend sessions at multiple chapters. Find out more about subscriptions here. Please note, you must have an active membership to take out a subsctiption.

So what are you waiting for? Come and join us for a session, we’d love you to come along and have some fun!
